As we enter a new year, fresh interior design trends are emerging that bring exciting and invigorating styles to homes in 2024. From bold colors to natural materials to retro influences, design experts are tracking down the trends that will define 2024. Stay ahead of the curve with this forecast of the hottest decor styles for the coming year.
Organic Color Schemes
Greens, light blues, terracotta and hues inspired by nature are dominating the 2024 color palette. Earthy hues like emerald green, cobalt blue, mustard yellow and burnt orange will emerge in place of gray and neutrals. These richer shades bring energy and a cozy feel. Green evokes renewal, calm and closeness to nature. Blue-grays are inspired by tranquil skies and seas for serenity. We'll see lots of warm wood, cane, rattan and jute paired with these colors for texture.
Sage green and deep forest tones bring renewal and a tropical vibe, reflecting a desire to connect with the outdoors. Soft blue-grays evoke serene skies and tranquil waters for a comforting yet modern look. Expect to see lots of linen, rattan and wood finishes paired with these lush colors.
Here are some shades we are using in our projects this year:
These are the colors incorporated into our room designs, whether applied through paint, wallpaper, cabinetry, tile, or textiles. To simplify your reference, we've categorized them by paint colors. One valuable tip we offer our clients is to carry swatches of their paint, flooring, fabric, tile, metal finishes, etc., while shopping for decor to ensure coordination.
Antique Pewter 1560- Reminiscent of a rich patina, this green hue is grounded by a touch of gray. It brings renewal, calm and a cozy feel to living spaces. Pairs perfectly with blond wood and natural textiles.
Topaz 070 - A deep, radiant orange with rich undertones of brown and red. The warm terracotta color that evokes earthy pottery.
White Dove OC-17- This color continues to be a versatile go-with-everything clean white shade and base for accent walls and trim.
Upward SW 6239- A breezy, blissful blue. The color found when we slow down, take a breath, and allow the mind to clear. This is another color inspired by nature. It is the color of a beautiful blue sky, and could be the perfect shade for a bathroom retreat.
Behr 2024 "Color Wheel Forecast":
Cracked Pepper PPU18-01 - We always have to have a black on our list, and this one is the perfect soft black that elevates any space.
Provence Blue HDC-AC-23- A dusty, mid blue-green shade, that has a lot of versatility. It's a shade that could go with gold, silver or black finishes...kinda like the perfect pair of blue jeans.
Sleek Mid-Century Modern Lines
Expect a revival of mid-century styles from the 40s-60s with streamlined silhouettes, curved lines, elegantly tapered legs, and geometric patterns. Simple yet statement shapes create functional living spaces distinct to this era but with updated materials and less ornamentation. Furniture mixes curves, angles and functionality through convertible pieces suited to small floor-plans. Textiles and wall art will display popular atomic and boomerang prints from the 50's and 60's but in muted neutrals and earth tones instead of vibrant hues.
Sculptural Lighting Statements
In 2024, statement lighting sculptures will double as artwork. Metals are shaped into branching, orb-like fixtures for visual drama while still effectively lighting a space. Bold curves, spherical pendant lights, reconstructed candlestick shapes and globe wire frames will exemplify this trend. Instead of blending in, fixtures grab attention and set a mood. We'll see lots of brass, iron, natural woven materials and metallic finishes often drawing sculptural inspiration from natural shapes.
Natural and Tactile Textures
The resurgence of biophilia continues, focusing on tactile, comforting materials that mimic nature. Textures like nubby linen, unfinished wood surfaces with visible grains, woven leather and macrame provide coziness and warmth, balancing sleek metals and modern lines. Handcrafted ceramics, woven wall hangings and seagrass rugs connect rooms to organic style. Surfaces look timeworn, reclaimed or handmade using renewable materials for an authentic, inviting look.
As we move into the new year, the 2024 interior design scene brings a fresh and rejuvenating take with organic colors, sculptural lighting, natural textures and mid-century influences. These four key trends provide a wealth of options for designing serene, cozy and functional living spaces that meet the lifestyle needs of today.
When planning your home updates for 2024, use these trends as inspiration while adding your unique personal touch. Think about which hues, materials and styles energize you the most or promote wellness through biophilic design. With some creativity, your spaces can feel retro, handcrafted, artistic, earthy and tranquil at the same time.
